Discussing Universal Human Responsibilities
Time & Location
About the Event
For over 70 years, the world has had the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but no agreed upon definition of human responsibilities. The Campaign for Universal Human Responsibilities believes it is time to add a companion universal declaration of human responsibilities and your participation is of the utmost importance for us to create a representative and ever-evolving document. During the workshop, we will have a 1h30 minute discussion about your perceptions on the notion of human responsibility, how it should be translated into a formal document and also how this discussion can impact our actions towards promoting relevant progress on major global issues, like climate and inequality.
What is The Campaign for Universal Human Responsibilities?
In May 2019 at the OECD Forum, which had 4,500 registered participants from 135 countries, 70 citizens participated in an open workshop to draft a first version of a Universal Declaration of Human Responsibilities. From that moment forward, a group of volunteers has continued to bring this dialogue to the world in ways that can make a lasting difference. This workshop is part of an initiative envisioned by and for an alliance of citizens, independent of any commercial or governmental influence. Organizations like the OECD are encouraging this work precisely because it is grounded in citizens; it is original, fresh, raw, and historic while outside, around and within the nation-state system. To learn more about this initiative, please read the following article published by the OECD Forum Network: https://www.oecd-forum.org/posts/57402-raising-our-game-universal-human-responsibilities-and-the-future-of-civilization.
